Greenhouse Residues’ Potential for Biogas Production

چکیده
Agricultural residues are intensively evaluated as potential feedstocks for biogas plants. Vegetable crops generate massive during and at the end of their growing seasons. A greenhouse facility in Greece, Thrace Greenhouses S.A., generates 7000–8000 t per year residual green biomass, resulting from hydroponic cultivation tomatoes cucumbers on 170,000 m2 land February to November. The crop included leaves, suckers, stalks. biochemical methane (BMP) estimation was realized samples taken March, May, August, well (November). Suckers, stalks both plants yielded a range 221–357, 210–296, 225–250 NL kg−1 VS, respectively. t-test statistical analysis showed that BMP leaves suckers were statistically different tomato cucumber lower than other residue types except leaves. diauxic behavior specifi‘1c production curves indicated two-phase Gompertz model (TGM) most suitable. fitting spite having higher stalks, exhibited maximum specific rate constant first phase, which may indicate presence inhibitory or slowly biodegradable compounds comparison

The Potential for Biogas Production from Grass
Grass is generally considered as one of the major agricultural products and covers over 90% of Irish agricultural land. While useful as an animal feedstock it can also be used for energy production. Here batch mesophilic anaerobic digestion of grass silage was studied. The methane concentration in the biogas clearly showed that grass silage has a high affinity to produce a high quality methane ...
متن کاملBiogas production potential from cotton wastes
The anaerobic treatability and methane generation potential of three different cotton wastes namely, cotton stalks, cotton seed hull and cotton oil cake were determined in batch reactors. In addition, the effects of nutrient and trace metal supplementation were also investigated. To this purpose biochemical methane potential (BMP) experiments were performed for two different waste concentration...
متن کاملBiogas Production Potential from Economically Usable
Biomass production for energy purposes on agricultural land competes with food production. This is a serious problem, considering the limited availability of farmland, rising demand for varied food products, demand for more organic crop production resulting in considerably reduced yields per area and the need for more environmentally sound agricultural practices meeting long-term sustainability...
